Reinventing Cryoablation:
The HeartPad® “XLT” (Extremely Low Temperature) Cryoablation System
The HeartPad® is a versatile system intended for ablation of cardiac tissue from an epicardial (outer surface of the heart) location, while simultaneously protecting adjacent structures from unintentional ablation injury. Designed for open, MIS surgical and percutaneous ablation, our patented technology utilizes potent cryothermal energy based on liquid helium, coupled with a sophisticated delivery system. The intended result is transmural ablation of diseased cardiac tissue despite barriers of thick surface fat and warm cardiac blood flow. Cryoablation may be associated with better preservation of extracellular architecture and less inflammation compared with other thermal energy sources. The combination of the multiple thermal advantages of helium and ultra-efficient gas exchange makes it possible to ablate complex and fat-rich targets without opening a heart chamber.
